FINDING
THE
RIGHT
COACH
FOR
YOU
The Power of coaching is held in the relationship between you and
your coach. Even more relevant than skill level, experience and
specific expertise is how connected you feel with this coach. The
most important qualities of a successful coaching relationship are
the depth of trust, safety and connection you have with your
coach. After all, you are entrusting this partner to empower you
to achieve your specific definition of success.
This is a very important and personal decision.
Before making your selection, it’s a good idea to speak with
several coaches. Many coaches offer a complimentary session.
Experiencing coaching with a few will enable you to find the style
which best suits you.
Important points to know about a coach prior to making your
selection:
- Is this coach professionally trained from an International Coach
Federation (ICF) accredited program?
- Is this coach professionally certified from an ICF accredited
institution?
- Has this coach earned a professional designation from the ICF?
- Is this coach a member in good standing of the ICF?
- Does this coach adhere to the ICF standards, ethics and
guidelines?
- What references has this coach provided?
- How does this coach’s relevant experience, skills or abilities
match my needs?
- What are this coach’s specialties?
Questions to ask yourself:
- Do I have a sense of rapport, trust and confidence with this
coach?
- Do I feel I have this coach’s full undivided attention?
- Do feel I understood, respected and held to my best self by this
coach?
- Do I feel we have a similar communication style and connection?
- Would I feel safe bringing ANY topic to coach on with this
person?
- Possibly the most relevant question of all is ~ what is my
intuitive ‘gut’ reaction telling me?
